Today, the United Press International reported that a Connecticut teenager returned from a boy scout trip to Wyoming, and after having been bitten by a flea, was diagnosed with the bubonic plague, the widely recognized culprit for the Black Death that claimed much of Europe hundreds of years ago. The young boy has been deemed non-contagious and is not in mortal peril, thankfully, but this story serves to remind us all that we must take care to stay safe when we travel.

Even creatures as small as fleas can cause illness to take hold, and so we must be vigilant and aware of our own status. If you’re traveling and begin to feel sick, you shouldn’t ignore the presence of symptoms. While it’s important not to lose your cool (even if you have a fever), you don’t want to underestimate something that could be dangerous. Most illnesses can be caught early when they manifest in the form of a myriad of symptoms, and discovering an illness early can mean successful recovery.

If you’re going to travel and enjoy outdoor activities, make sure to take care to avoid certain parasites that typically cause bacterial illnesses, such as the bubonic plague, or could carry a virus, such as the West Nile virus. No one wants to tolerate an illness while on vacation, or even on a business trip. Many people who get sick while traveling find themselves in such predicaments because they are unequipped with the antibodies to repel local bacteria and viruses, but some illnesses can be serious, and it’s rare to be able to get vaccinations against every possible illness, so it’s best to just keep watch on oneself and to see a doctor if something is wrong.

…And choice is the privilege. Your privilege, especially at ParkSleepFly. As with many services, the more advanced or elegant, the higher the price. Booking a room at a five star hotel costs a bit different than booking at a two star hotel. If you’re looking to save a few more dollars, you might sacrifice a star…or maybe you’ll sacrifice a few dollars to get that extra benefit.

At ParkSleepFly, you have the choice. Each search results in a variety of hotels and motels, so that you can pick the one that fits your lifestyle and your budget. Once you’ve chosen which airport hotel you’d like to book your room at, reserving the room is easy and secure. One click will lead you to a quick form and you’re on your way. A small deposit can be made over ParkSleepFly’s secure, hacker-free system.

As we move further along in our declining economy, and fuel prices continue to make travel more expensive, airlines have done what they could to shift some of their cost to travelers, in order to continue offering the same variety and frequency of flights. Unfortunately, airlines are still going to have to cut the amount and frequency of flights, beginning with direct flights, domestic and international.

What does this mean for travelers? More people per flight, more money per flight, more traffic getting to the airport, fewer and more expensive parking spaces and longer lines. ParkSleepFly can’t do anything to help with the amount of people per flight, but can help to offset all of those other inconveniences and travel hardships.

Don’t want to miss your flight because of long lines to get through security? Stay overnight at an airport hotel so that you’re only a ten minute ride away. Park at the hotel to save on parking rates and avoid the hassle of finding first-come, first-served parking spaces at the airport, where rates will be rising to deter the overfilling of parking areas. A safe and complimentary shuttle will transport you between your hotel and your terminal.

Avoid driving at times of heavy traffic. If you’re catching an early morning flight or returning late at night, avoid driving hazards such as drowsiness by staying in your pre-booked hotel room near the airport. Save on the cost of your trip, be it for vacation or business, by booking your airport hotel and parking ahead of time on ParkSleepFly. With some planning and forethought, traveling needn’t be a hassle, or overly expensive, even if the airlines must adjust their flights to accommodate our current economic situation.

In today’s news, AAA announced that expected air travel from Michigan on Labor Day weekend, though down roughly eight percent, will still be upwards of 85,000 travelers passing through Michigan airports. Most will be departing on the Friday or Saturday before Labor Day, so travelers could expect to have more than about 40,000 co-travelers as they fly out to enjoy a last bit of summer vacation. Airfare is reported to be up fifteen percent over this time last year.

So how can you save money? By booking your airport parking and hotel reservation with ParkSleepFly, of course! Below you can find a brief look at some sample rates. All rates are for three star hotels, departing on the Friday before the holiday.

If you’re flying out of Detroit, you can reserve a room for one night for $69.95, which includes up to seven days of parking. Departing from Lansing, you can expect to pay as little as $109.00 for one room (one night) and up to fourteen days parking. You can reserve an Executive hotel room in Grand Rapids for $84.00 per night. Executive rooms include free breakfast, internet, a desk and additional amenities.

As you can see, if you’re among the 85,000+ travelers planning to fly out of Michigan for Labor Day, you have several options depending on which airport you’re flying out of, but at each of them there is the opportunity to add convenience and comfort to your trip for an affordable rate. Please have a safe and happy holiday trip.

Imagine that for less money than it costs to climb Mt. Everest, you could take a flight into space. This week, Fox reported that Star Systems, Inc. has developed a prototype craft that will undergo tests and possibly lead to commercial flights beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.

The craft has been named Hermes, after the Greek god of myth. Among his duty as the messenger of his fellow Olympian deities, Hermes was the god of travel. According to Star Systems, Inc, it was Hermes’ association with travel that earned him the position as the craft’s namesake, because Star Systems, Inc. is surpassing boundaries, which is often a paramount element of travel.

While at first, space travel will be costly (Star Systems, Inc. predicts that the trip will cost as much as a new car…though which new car they’re using for comparison is key…incidentally, they haven’t said). Eventually, as with all new technology, the price will decrease. Eventually space travel will be available to more and more of the public. Imagine booking your parking and hotel reservations for the nearest space port with ParkSleepFly in the future. No matter how the price falls on commercial space travel, it will never be “inexpensive.” With ParkSleepFly, at least you’ll get affordable parking and hotel rates.

MarketWatch in Washington, D.C. reported recently that the Air Transport Association (ATA) is filing a lawsuit agaiinst the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) because the ATA believes the FAA is acting unlawfully in its decision to auction off slots at Newark Airport. James C. May, the CEO and President of ATA, commented to MarketWatch that, regarding the FAA’s actions, “inhibit economic growth and further tax an already overtaxed traveling public.” On page six of the ATA’s comments to the FAA on this matter, the FAA has not begun this auction with the consent of Congress, which would be necessary in order for the auction to be legal.

If the FAA legally administers this auction, and the ATA’s assessment holds true, travelers can expect further increases in the cost of traveling, at least when it comes to the airlines itself. As far as parking and airport hotel reservations are concerned, ParkSleepFly is dedicated as ever to bring you affordable rates, hoping to lessen the cost of travel so that you needn’t sacrifice your vacation plans.

Suppose you’re checking into the Raddison, ranked four stars by fellow customers who have stayed there, for one week. For less than two hundred dollars, you could stay at the hotel the night before you fly and park there for the entire week, with a free shuttle that will transport you between your terminal and the hotel. So even if traveling in and out of Newark Liberty Airport were to become more expensive, at least you could park and stay at a nearby hotel for affordable rates.

In recent years, more and more travelers have been booking elements of their vacations online. Airplane tickets were one of the first elements of travel that allowed for online purchase, mostly because airlines already booked tickets for travel agents using a computer system. Hotels room booking over the internet was quick to follow for large hotel chains, but took a little while longer for inns and B&B’s. Travel packages became popular for hotel rooms and airline tickets, guaranteeing your flight and a hotel room when you arrived at your destination.

Now, the travel agent has become the internet. ParkSleepFly is a pioneer in the realm of self-booking travel arrangements, allowing travelers to book hotel rooms and airport parking, for the purpose of making getting to the airport on time easier and more stress free. Whereas many airports do not even allow travelers to book their parking, ParkSleepFly allows travelers to book hotel rooms and parking ahead of time, when they book their trip, and for less money.

Planning a trip used to be far more time consuming. Travelers had to go to see a travel agent, collect reading material, go home and review it with their families, return to the travel agent (or call) to have everything booked, and then await confirmation. Nowadays, travelers can get onto the internet (which for many doesn’t even involve dialing anymore), look up where they’d like to visit, book their airfare, hotels and parking, and print out confirmation then and there, from the comfort of their home.

While this shift has not been beneficial to travel agents who do not wish to adapt, it adds convenience for the traveler, so that more focus can be placed on enjoying the trip itself. Imagine missing out on climbing to the top of Il Duomo to see all of Florence, Italy, or not seeing the whale breach on the port side because you’re busy rearranging your itinerary to spend one more day on vacation, when you could enjoy your trip and use the hotel’s free wi-fi later that evening to adjust your travel plans.

ParkSleepFly is part of this shift toward greater convenience, at a lower price, for travelers.

Hungry for a pre-flight cookie? Want a meal? How about a drink of water? Be sure you have cash on you, or that you’ve brought your own food and water in security-approved containers, else you’re going to have a very hungry flight. The need for cash is only temporary though; soon you’ll be able to use plastic to buy your water or pillow.

Charging for something like a cookie or an elaborate meal may be understandable, though the price of those used to be built into your ticket. Charging for items such as a bottle of water though could prove more than inconvenient. As the weeks go by, travel by airline seems to get more and more expensive, but it’s no fun to be grounded when you could be enjoying one last summer vacation.

That’s why ParkSleepFly wants to help to save you money by providing affordable reservations for your hotel room and parking near the airport so that you can make your flight without the stress of morning traffic and lines, and without feeling as though you’ve been forced into paying extra for what you need.

Packages include a hotel room and a given number of days of parking that usually amount to far less than parking at the airport, which can cost, at minimum, eight dollars per day. Over one week that’s already more than fifty dollars to simply park!

Say yes to ParkSleepFly, and say no to extra charges!

You’ve planned the perfect vacation. Your itinerary is flawless, you’ve researched the best hot spots at your destination and you can practically recite the Zagat Guide from memory. As your vacation departure approaches, excitment builds, but you’re feeling calm and confident. You’re not going to have to worry about traffic or missing your flight because you’ve already reserved a hotel room and parking for the night before with ParkSleepFly. You’re quite looking forward to perusing the next morning’s paper while you ride the complimentary shuttle directly to your terminal.

A fateful trip into your attic or basement reveals that your luggage is worn and features a stubborn zipper, that, if it were to catch on your carry-on, you could be responsible for security delays and exasperated sighs from fellow travelers as they’re forced to wait while you fight with your old luggage. After making the command decision that some new luggage is in order, where do you go to buy luggage at an affordable price? To whom do you turn?

ParkSleepFly has your answer. With multiple luggage providers available through the Travel Mall website, you can find the right luggage for the right price. Just like finding the right hotel for the right price, you can rely on ParkSleepFly and listed affiliates linked in the Travel Mall. Reliability, quality and affordability…what better qualities to adopt in relation to travel?

An article in the New York Times announced today that American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia Airlines have once more applied for antitrust approval in the hopes of alleviating high prices due to increases in the cost of fuel as well as, of course, to attract more customers. According to the article written by Micheline Maynard, Sir Richard Branson, owner of Virgin Atlantic raised concerns that such an agreement will lead to an ultimate rise in airfare prices because there will be less competition.

If the agreement reaches success, then travelers should be ready for either eventuality: that of the airlines seeking the alliance, and that of Sir Richard Branson, and either way, ParkSleepFly will become an even more important website for travelers seeking a relaxing and secure journey.

Supposing prices drop, more travelers will take to the airports, which will mean busier flights, and busier roads surrounding many of the larger airports. More traffic means more stress, unless travelers make use of the simple and secure registration system on ParkSleepFly. Travelers can search for and view hotels that offer both hotel rooms and parking. Parking includes a complimentary shuttle to and from the terminal.

If Sir Richard Branson is correct, and a successful alliance leads to higher prices due to less market competition, ParkSleepFly will continue to offer hotel room and parking reservations at a low rate, which means that, as now, ParkSleepFly will continue to contribute to easing travelers’ wallets and adding to the convenience, safety and thus relaxation of every trip to and from the airport.

These days it’s not uncommon to see articles in the news warning travelers about the rise in airfare prices, due to airlines decreasing flight numbers in order to save on fuel. What is rare is to find news of low airfare prices. In the New York Times, Michelle Higgens wrote an article this week called Ahead: Fewer Flights, Fewer Bargains which outlines the increases in airfare. At the end of the article, Ms. Higgens writes “Horizon Air, which begins daily nonstop flights to Mammoth Yosemite Airport from Los Angeles on December 18, is offering introductory fares of $79 each way.”

While that’s pretty specific, Horizon Air’s introductory rate might be a good way to squeeze out a vacation in 2008, even if your budget did not originally include vacation possibilities. Unfortunately, ParkSleepFly cannot do anything to further lower the airfare, but already being fairly low, a round trip between LAX and Mammoth Yosemite Airport would cost $158, for the airfare alone. But we all know that a vacation costs more than airfare.

At ParkSleepFly, you can book a three star hotel plus seven days of parking for less than $140, which is less than you could expect to pay were you to book your hotel through a separate entity, and park at the airport for those seven days. For less than three hundred dollars, you’d have your roundtrip airfare, a hotel room to stay at the night before your flight (or the night after) and secure parking for the duration of your vacation, plus a complimentary shuttle service between your hotel and the terminal you’re flying from.

Of course you might make the trip for even less if you drive, but you’re looking at almost six hours driving for each leg of the journey. If your car gets twenty miles to the gallon, you can also expect to pay over $130 in fuel, if fuel is at least $4.50 per gallon, which it likely will be by the time December rolls around. You also could face some snowy roads, so if you drive the SUV or truck instead, you could expect to pay a good deal more in fuel.

ParkSleepFly means a relaxing trip with less stress. You won’t have any traffic to deal with, and you can make your reservations ahead of time, so that you don’t have to miss out on a holiday trip in the rush of the holidays.

Despite the current economical situation, air traffic out of Burlington Airport is up more than seven percent from 2007, according to officials quoted on Vermont’s own Channel 3 news website, and this past July, air travel increased almost seventeen percent over July of 2007. This increase is said to be caused by the strength of the Canadian dollar and the addition of a new airline at Burlington Airport. With air travel on the rise, you can count on increased traffic to the airport.

With ParkSleepFly, why worry? Suppose you’re traveling out on an early flight and arriving back at BTV on a late flight, and will be gone for five days. On ParkSleepFly, you can reserve a room for both nights, the night before your departure and the night after your arrival, and take a taxi service to and from the airport and your hotel, saving you the stress of traveling on the roads during peak travel times and getting stuck in traffic, road construction, and possibly missing your flight.

On ParkSleepFly, those two nights at a three star hotel plus the taxi service fee amounts to about $230.00. If you were to book your hotel off of ParkSleepFly, you could expect to pay almost $360.00 just for the hotel room, two nights, at a three star hotel. On top of that, without ParkSleepFly, you’d have to pay for airport parking, which, at $8.00 per day adds up to $40.00 for the duration of your five-day trip.

Using ParkSleepFly when you fly in or out of Burlington International Airport can save you almost two hundred dollars, at the same quality establishment without sacrificing your comfort, convenience or compromising your wallet.

The future of flying and the future of ParkSleepFly are obviously closely tied. Already, several airlines offer in-flight Wi-Fi services for a small fee, or, in some cases, for free. The significance of this development will touch the travel industry in many ways, but most important for ParkSleepFly customers is that you will be able to reserve a hotel room from tens of thousands of feet in the air.

Two possible situations are clear and easy to imagine. Suppose you missed your flight home and caught a later plane, but now you won’t arrive at the airport until the wee hours of the morning. You’ve already used ParkSleepFly to stay in a hotel and park the night before you departed, but you’re a bit nervous about driving back home without plenty of sleep, during a potentially dangerous driving time. Perhaps, even, the weather is inclement back at the airport (this information could be known by accessing the internet of course). You would be able to access ParkSleepFly in order to book a room so that you know you’ll enjoy a safe night’s sleep before your drive home.

Perhaps you were away on business, and you found out that you’d be returning for more meetings in a week’s time. You could book your hotel room and parking during your flight, saving you time at home when you might want to spend time with your family or do some yard work (although not many people get excited about mowing their lawns).

The addition of Wi-Fi services to the array of in-flight conveniences will be a positive one, for airlines, for ParkSleepFly, but most importantly, for you, providing you consistent access to the internet and making reserving hotel and parking space even easier.

Earlier this morning, MarketWatch published notification that American Airlines will begin charging fifty dollars in addition to fifteen thousand miles for any frequent-flier upgrades. As fuel prices continue to rise (even though they’ve decreased a bit lately) airline prices will continue to soar.

Let’s look at a comparison. Suppose you’re flying out of LaGuardia Airport in New York for a ten day trip, and want to stay at a hotel the night before you fly. For the sake of example, suppose also that you’re flying American Airlines. Not only will you face that extra fifty dollars (and fifteen thousand miles) for any upgrades, but parking and hotel arrangements through the airline (or any airline) are pricey as well.

If you’re taking the train into Manhattan, the least expensive stay at a two star hotel in the city of Manhattan will cost $39 per night, but chances are that hotel is pretty scary, but maybe you’re up for a bit of adventure. If you take the train into the city, chances are you’ll take a cab to LaGuardia, which will cost upwards of $45 each leg of the journey, which you have to multiply by two because you’re going to have to get back to Grand Central somehow. All in all, to stay at a scary hotel (which won’t give you peace of mind) and catch a cab to the airport will cost you around $130. Granted that’s pretty inexpensive, but most people don’t stay at hotels in Manhattan for less than a hundred dollars a night and expect to rest. Even so, dealing with traffic from the Big Apple to the airport is no picnic and can be quite stressful.

Let’s look at another option. Suppose you book one night at the Clarion Hotel using Expedia for the first night in October of 2008. For a single room for one adult, you could expect to pay around $175 for the night. You drive your own car to LaGuardia, where parking averages $30 per day, which amounts to $300 for a ten day trip, bringing your total cost for hotel and parking to a whopping $475.

ParkSleepFly wants to give you another, less expensive version of this story. For around $280, you can stay at that same hotel, the Clarion, for one night, and receive ten days of parking. In addition, you’ll be driven to the airport by a complimentary shuttle that will take you directly to your terminal. Providing peace of mind where your first booking option failed, and providing significant savings where the second option failed, ParkSleepFly wants you to be able to enjoy your travel experience for a more reasonable price. Who knows, maybe that extra $50 American Airlines is asking for won’t seem so bad now that you can save almost 60% on your hotel and parking.

Planning ahead means more than washing your laundry and making sure your suitcase is ready to go by the time you need to head to the airport. You wouldn’t likely head to the airport without a ticket and expect to get onto the flight of your choice. What if the flight is full? What if you encounter unforeseen delays, such as long lines at security checkpoints? Similarly you wouldn’t expect to avoid all possible delays on the way to the airport, or even on your way home.

Traffic is an ever-present issue, along with finding a parking space, waiting in line for your boarding pass and getting through security to the gate where you might discover your plane was delayed. Or perhaps you hire a limousine or use a shared-ride service which eliminates the hassle of finding a parking space, but leaves you vulnerable to all other delays.

Planning ahead can keep your trip stress-free, and as the internet grows, so does ease of travel. Suppose you’re flying out on business or vacation, and the only flight you were able to reserve that would get you to your destination on time departs at six am. Most airports advise allowing up to two hours for getting your boarding pass, checking your luggage and passing through all of the necessary security checkpoints, but your flight is so early that you aim to arrive at the terminal at five in the morning. Let’s estimate that finding a parking space will take about a half hour, and then you have to get to the terminal itself, so you’ll want to reach the parking lot by four am. Give a half hour over to travel and you’re waking up, at the absolute latest, at three am. If you don’t fall asleep until ten the night before, that’s a maximum of five hours.

Five hours sleep will hardly leave you rested for that important business meeting or tours through the city of Rome, and chances are, any shut eye you manage to have on the flight itself won’t be terribly restorative. With a little bit of planning ahead, you can save over an hour of that early-morning rush, and save yourself the anxiety that would only be made worse by a lack of sleep.

ParkSleepFly has your solution. By offering accurate and easy-to-search quotes on hotel rooms and airport parking, you can plan to sleep at a hotel that’s located near the airport of your choice the night before you fly, or even the night you arrive (or both), saving you the hassle of delays and the danger of potentially driving while sleepy. Each search reveals a number of listings, all rated by industry standards as well as customer surveys.

With quick, easy and secure reservations, you can be on your way to a relaxing and safe trip, from the moment you book it to the moment you arrive home again.

This feature not only provides an outlet for travelers to express the quality of their experiences, but adds a higher level of merit and usefulness to travelers who are looking to book reservations. When searching for hotel accommodations on ParkSleepFly, customers receive not only a commercial rating of each hotel based on a five-star system, but the customer rating as well, based on customer surveys and shown as a rating of one to five stars.

Along with each customer rating, the number of surveys taken is shown, giving each rating a quantifiable value that further empowers the qualified customer rating, further than the commercial rating. So what does this mean for travelers using ParkSleepFly to book their hotel and airport parking reservations? Not only will customers be able to view the value assigned to each hotel by the standards of the industry, but also the value assigned to each hotel by their peers.

According to the president of Forecasting International, Marvin Cetron, 1.6 billion will travel annually by the year 2020. This forecast was determined based upon the rate at which travel is growing, and has grown over the last couple of years, as discussed in the first part of “10 Travel Trends,” published last month in Travel Weekly.

For travelers, this growth means an increase in traffic to and from the airports, as well as within the terminals themselves. Parking on the fly will become more uncertain and moving crowds through security checkpoints will increase the window of time travelers must afford in order to make their scheduled flight.

With current (and expected) growth in travel, making an early morning flight can mean only a few hours sleep the night before, and most airplanes aren’t known for spare space in which to comfortably stretch out and get some rest; no traveler wants to spend their first day of vacation or attend a business dinner coping not only with jet lag but in addition, a lack of sleep.

ParkSleepFly’s innovative and convenient combination of airport parking and hotel reservations alleviates the uncertainty and potential delays that could keep travelers from arriving at the airport in plenty of time to get from the terminal entrance to the gate. Travelers who have booked an early flight out for their trip receive not only off-peak rates with some airlines, but can also arrive at their destination in time to see some daylight.

At ParkSleepFly, reserving a hotel room and parking space is quick, easy and begins with a simple search. Providing five types of information (package type sought—for example hotel & parking or just hotel, departure city, package specifications—when you want the room, travel dates and room requirement such as number of rooms), ParkSleepFly’s search engine reveals a list of affordable, quality choices.

Each listing provides hotel information such as the hotel name, hotel rating (out of five stars), the customer rating, and a map showing the location of the hotel relative to the airport. Additional information includes rates and a hotel description, as well as a photo. From there, making a reservation is as easy as the click of a button.
